Richardson ISD Superintendent Jeannie Stone is asking families to be cautious of COVID-19 heading into Thanksgiving break next week.
Stone updated the community via YouTube Nov. 19 on where the district stands regarding the coronavirus pandemic as positive cases rise in Dallas County and schools across state.
“While RISD’s portion within Dallas County does not have the level of case activity that some other areas of Dallas County have experienced, our cases are increasing,” she said in the update.
Stone had a message for families after listening to heads of hospitals urge communities to take increased precautions:
“I need to speak to you, our RISD community viewing audience, on behalf of our frontline workers: our teachers, bus drivers and all staff working as essential workers to keep our schools open,” she said. “To say that teachers and our staff are concerned is an understatement.”
Stone went on to urge families to wear masks, avoid crowds and gatherings of people and not share food or drinks with others during Thanksgiving break.
“Our schools will reopen on Nov. 30,” she said. “And we want everyone to be safe as they re-enter.”
