DPD’s Robert Arredondo will become Chief of Police in Victoria, Texas
Major Robert Arredondo has been named the sole finalist to become Chief of Police for the City of Victoria, Texas. Arredondo currently leads the Dallas Police Department’s northeast division from the station at Audelia and Northwest Highway.
“Major Arredondo has been a great leader for our community at the northeast division and has served our city for many years with distinction,” said Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Adam McGough, who chairs the city’s public safety committee. “He is a man of integrity, and he speaks the truth. I enjoyed working with Major Arredondo, and we will miss him greatly. I wish him and his family all the best.”
Arredondo joined the DPD in 1996 as a patrol officer and rose swiftly through the ranks. He served as detective and sergeant in the homicide and robbery units and worked as a gang enforcement officer before becoming a division commander in 2015. The U.S. Army veteran with a master’s in public affairs begins his new gig Nov. 30.
“All I can say is that I hope the citizens and officers of Victoria know they are getting an amazing leader,” agreed DPD Senior Corporal Kevin Kelley. “He has done so much for the residents here in Northeast Dallas during his time here. He is a great officer, leader and role model. He will be truly missed, and we wish him nothing but the best.”
Arredondo’s wife, Detective Angela Arredondo, also works with the DPD and will remain in Dallas to wrap up her caseload before moving to Victoria.
“I’d like to thank the men and women of the Northeast Patrol Division, our amazingly supportive community and councilmembers, Mr. McGough, Mrs. Blackmon and Mrs. Staubach-Gates, all for their continued support and dedication to the Northeast Dallas Community,” messaged Arredondo. “I feel blessed to have had this opportunity to work with such dedicated people like Chuck Laughlin and Vicky Taylor of the North and South Lake Highlands PID and Stacey Roth of the Vickery Midtown PID and so many others that I will miss. The Northeast Dallas Community will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for all your support.”
As word spread of his move, words of congratulation came in from departments all across Texas.
“Chief Arredondo is a great young leader and will do a phenomenal job,” tweeted Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo. “Proud of you Chief and happy for my friends in Victoria.”
