A much-beloved Lake Highlands tradition continues Saturday as St. James Episcopal Church volunteers roll out their annual Pumpkin Patch on the church’s front lawn.
Due to the pandemic, organizers are limiting capacity, sanitizing surfaces and encouraging mask-wearing at the outdoor event.
Throughout October, pumpkins of every size, shape and variety will be sold at the patch, an annual joint venture between St. James and Southwest-based farmers who grow and harvest the crop. Proceeds go to Saint James Student Ministries, helping young people grow in faith through local outreach and national and international mission trips. The church also leads a strong outreach to LH’s large population of Burmese refugees.
Admission to the patch is free, and St. James volunteers will give you a wink and a nod if you show up to take photos of children or grandchildren. They also welcome school groups by appointment.
The first pumpkin unload is Saturday morning, and patch hours are 1-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10-7 Friday-Saturday and 11:30-7 Sunday.
