A Lake Highlands shooting Saturday evening left one man dead and one injured, and neighbors reported a chaotic scene before the surviving gunman was located and arrested. A helicopter and multiple squad cars were used in the search.

Witnesses called 9-1-1 around 5:30 p.m. to report that two people shot each other in the 9600 block of Ferris Branch Boulevard near Whitehurst, NBC DFW reported. One fled in a gray Dodge Charger.

Arriving officers found one victim on the sidewalk, and he was transported to the hospital. He later died.

Police located and pulled over the Charger in the 10000 block of Ferndale near Church Road. The suspect, 43-year-old Derek Youngblood, had a gunshot wound to the hand. His girlfriend was driving, and there were two rifles in the car. Youngblood faces a murder charge.

“Our officers did an outstanding job getting to the scene quickly and taking information from citizens,” said Major Roberto Arredondo. “Their statements put us on the suspect vehicle and led to his arrest.”
