The move comes about a week after the Dallas Park and Recreation Department closed public parking lots and street access to limit the excessive number of visitors at the lake. As a result, cars began parking along residential streets and other areas not intended for parking, according to a news release from the office of District 9 Councilwoman Paula Blackmon.

Park and Recreation Department staff will coordinate with the Dallas Transportation Department, the Dallas Police Department and others to close entry points when lots are full. That will include using digital signs, barricades and staff. Staff will be in place during weekends and holidays to turn people away once lots have reached capacity, according to the release.

On Saturday and Sunday, officials experimented with a “no parking without a permit program” at The Peninsula and Emerald Isle neighborhoods near White Rock Lake. But parking enforcement officers will still be available to ticket cars parked illegally or where no parking signs are in place.

“The City will continue to adapt its approach to balance the need to enforce emergency orders and physical distancing guidelines, as well as people’s need to safely enjoy the outdoors in all parks and trails,” officials said in the release.

Signage will be installed to remind visitors of proper social distancing requirements on trails. If White Rock Lake is too crowded, here are five others to try.
