Here is the message from Richardson ISD on Facebook:

Six RISD schools remain without power and will be closed on Tuesday, October 22. All other RISD schools will be open on a normal schedule. Parents and staff in affected areas should plan for additional travel time to school and at bus stops in the morning.

The six RISD schools closed on Tuesday, October 22 include:

Audelia Creek Elementary
Christa McAuliffe Learning Center
Dover Elementary
Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet
Richland Elementary
Stults Road Elementary

RISD continues to be in close contact with Oncor Energy, but projected restoration of power to these schools is currently unknown. Employees at the six schools will work at alternate locations Tuesday and should check with principals or supervisors for work assignment details.

The area surrounding the RISD Transportation Department was particularly hard hit, and access to the facility is limited. As a result, RISD is taking steps to limit student transportation and all junior high athletic events are cancelled for Tuesday, October 22. As of Monday evening, Tuesday’s high school UIL athletic events will still occur as scheduled, but are subject to postponement based on unforeseen transportation or safety considerations.

Message from Dr. Jeannie Stone, RISD Superintendent:

“Our primary concern with all decisions this week has been and will be the safety of our students, staff and families. Our facilities and central employees are working hard to ensure our schools are safe for teaching and learning to resume.

While we are truly thankful for no loss of life, we have RISD families who have lost homes and been displaced. Those families and students are foremost in our thoughts, and we will work with our area partners to provide support and assistance.

As we work to serve students, we thank everyone for their patience today and in the week to come as areas of our district begin the process of repairing or rebuilding. Thank you especially to our first responders in Dallas, Garland and Richardson for their hard work and service to our families.”
