Election Day for Richardson ISD’s school board is Nov. 5, and forums have been scheduled to enable voters to meet their candidates. The newly created District 5 surrounding Lake Highlands High School has just one candidate, incumbent Karen Clardy, but two other districts will host forums this month.
In District 4 containing historic Hamilton Park, four African-American women are on the ballot – Regina Harris, Patricia Price Hicks, Taler Jefferson and Sakennia Reed. One forum, to be held Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, will be hosted by the North Dallas Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and by Brewer Attorneys & Counselors. Bill Brewer represented former RISD trustee David Tyson in the lawsuit which led to the new system of 5 single member districts and 2 trustees elected at-large. Another District 4 forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Richardson (LWVR), will be held Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet.
In District 2, which surrounds Berkner High School, incumbent Eron Linn faces newcomer Vanessa Pacheco. The LWVR will host a forum Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Berkner Lecture Hall.
Early voting begins Oct. 21.
