The Grape, a Lakewood favorite for date nights and burgers, will close this October.

Co-owners Brian and Courtney Luscher are Lake Highlands neighbors who have owned the restaurant since 2007. The Luschers told Central Track they wanted to focus on family and other culinary ventures.

The Grape’s last day will be Oct. 10. However, founders Kathy McDaniel and Charlotte Parker still own the building and remain hopeful that the restaurant could live on under another culinary player who is considering taking over the reins, Central Track reported.

The Luschers opted to close rather than renew The Grape’s soon-to-expire lease and reapply for a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission license. The Grape will continue taking reservations and operating as usual until its final day of service.

The Grape has been a landmark in the Dallas dinning community since 1972 when McDaniel and Parker opened the eatery at 2808 Greenville Ave. Since then, it has been named one of the best date-night spots in Dallas and honored by Texas Monthly for serving the best burger in Texas in 2009.

“It’s bittersweet,” Brian Luscher told Central Track. “It’s not like we’re tossing double birds to the sky and smoking Camels on the way out. I’m gonna miss the ol’ gal.”
