Kyle and Lauren Young will be featured on the inaugural season of Cash Pad

Lake Highlands neighbors Kyle and Lauren Young love the popular house-flipping shows on TV, so when they saw a casting call for Dallas-area properties, their interest was piqued. Cash Pad, a new show on CNBC, follows Bachelorette stars JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers as they help owners renovate their homes for the vacation rental market.

The Youngs, who own a cool old bank building in historic downtown Granbury, didn’t give up when they weren’t chosen for the final 12. That’s a good thing, because JoJo and Jordan slipped them right in when one of the finalists bugged out.

“It was a whirlwind process,” Kyle told me. “We were really happy when we found out we were back in the running.”

Cash Pad premieres July 23 at 9 p.m., and the episode featuring the Youngs runs Aug. 20.

Vacation rentals, such as Airbnb and Home Away, are nothing new to the Youngs. The pool cabana behind their house at 9905 Shoreview is already a hot property on Airbnb.

“We’ve done really well with it,” said Kyle. “People use it for just about anything – hosting relatives, shopping trips, doctor visits, vacations…all kinds of things.”

The historic bank in Granbury, though, is something really unique.

“That property turned out to be amazing,” Kyle said. “It was definitely JoJo’s design and her ideas. She transformed it with items she found at local antique malls and junk stores. It was incredible.”

The project began in May, when Kyle and Lauren met JoJo and Jordan at the Granbury bank site. The Youngs aren’t usually Bachelorette groupies, but they had watched JoJo’s season to catch two of her suitors – Nick Benvenutti and Wells Adams. The two were Kyle’s rugby teammates at Ole Miss.

“It was a crazy coincidence that their season was the only one that we had watched, because I had a connection to a couple of the guys that were on it,” said Kyle.

Ten days later after meeting the Bachelorette celebs, the Youngs had the big reveal on their newly-renovated property.

“The first day, we showed them around, then they showed us around. They were really nice, really approachable. It was a great experience. I’d do it all over again. We’re planning to add more (vacation rental properties) in the future.”

Granbury is ideal for vacation rentals, Kyle said, because of the many tourist attractions nearby.

“Their slogan is, ‘Where Texas history lives.’ They have the Granbury Opera House, the live theatre, the last remaining drive-in theatre in Texas, lots of shopping, distilleries, wineries, Lake Granbury – the list is endless.”

JoJo, 28, played volleyball at Argyle High School before heading off to Baylor University and helped her mom remodel properties when she was a little girl.

“When I was younger, my mom had an apartment complex that she actually renovated from the ground up and me and my brothers would go in and help her,” she told Architectural Digest last year. “Early on, I got a taste of real estate and design. And then, when I was in college, that’s when I started becoming hands-on.”

Jordan, a former NFL quarterback best known as brother to future NFL Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers, said he enjoys sharing the couple’s projects on social media.

“We like to say I’m JoJo’s construction therapist,” he told TV Insider. “It doesn’t feel like work when it’s something you’re passionate about and something you love doing.”

You can catch Cash Pad Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. beginning July 23.
