There’s a chance you hear the words “local election” and immediately stop reading this story. Voter turnout for city council and school board elections are typically low, even though these races have a direct effect on the issues that impact you most — streets, local businesses and parks, for example.

We won’t use this space to lecture you about voting (but we’d prefer if you did exercise that right).

Instead the Advocate has compiled a list of all the people running for Dallas City Council in Lake Highlands. Most  neighbors reside in District 10, although a few live in District 9, which surrounds White Rock Lake and includes sections of Mockingbird, Skillman and Northwest Highway. The District 13 race also impacts portions of Lake Highlands, as writer Carol Toler explains here.

Here are all the candidates vying for the District 10 seat:

DeDe Alexander

Sirrano Keith Baldeo

Current City Councilman Adam McGough

These are all the District 9 candidates:

Paula Blackmon

Tamara Brown

Sarah Lamb

Erin Moore

This post was updated Friday, Feb. 22, after Paul Sims dropped out of the District 9 race. It was updated again Tuesday, March 12, after Jacinto Valdespino suspended his campaign.
