LHHS is in 6A’s District 7 for wrestling, competing with a few different teams than it does in 8-6A for football, basketball and other sports. District 7-6A includes Rockwall, ranked 5th in Texas, Jesuit and Rockwall Heath, along with familiar schools like Molina, Skyline, W.T. White, Berkner, Pearce and Richardson.

Head Coach Kevin Wainscott, who arrived at LHHS when National Wrestling Hall-of-Fame coach Pete Grieder retired from RISD, won a state title wrestling at Bishop Lynch, then a national title at Oklahoma State. His assistant, Ty Williams, wrestled at LHHS under Grieder and finished 6th at state his senior year.

The Wildcats have several talented athletes on the team, but Lake Highlands resident and Fox 4 Good Day’s Chip Waggoner featured one, Devin Parker, on his morning show in January. The junior, who has limited use of his legs due to an injury suffered as a child, has had success on the mat and has inspired his teammates and classmates at school. You can watch Chip’s story here.
