2018 Alumni Classic

Last year’s Wildcat Baseball Alumni Classic was a raving success, both as a reunion for returning players and as a game-slash-fundraiser to earn money for varsity programs. The umpire had barely called the final out before parent advisers were busy planning the second annual event. This year’s Alumni Classic will be held the weekend of Feb. 1 and 2 on the Lake Highlands High ball field, better known as The Cat.

More than 65 participants suited up a year ago from as far back as the Class of ’71 – many of whom had played at universities and junior colleges all over the southwest. Ben Jenkins, LHHS alum and founder of Warstic Bats, showed up with his unique creations, and Hall-of-Fame Coach Jay Higgins was on hand to work the pitching machine and reminisce with former players. Bob Johnston, The Voice of Lake Highlands, called the game in style.

The game must have been lucky for team, because they earned a playoff berth for the first time in five years. Coach Andy Parker, ready now for his second year as coach, says he has his sights on winning district this season. You can find the team schedule here.

On Friday, Feb. 1, the Wildcats will play a varsity scrimmage at 5 p.m., followed by a home run derby at 7:30. After that, the whole crew will head to Shady’s for burgers and beverages. Alums, their families and the entire community are all invited to join in.

Saturday at mid-day will be the alumni game (exact time TBD based on number of responses). If you’d like to play, email LHHS and UT baseball alum Taylor Stell at tstell@lee-associates.com. Jerseys will be provided, but players should wear baseball pants or warmups. Go Cats!
