Dallas Park and Recreation Board member Paul Sims has resigned from his seat to run for City Council.
The White Rock area resident hopes to replace Mark Clayton for the District 9 seat. Clayton announced Wednesday that he would not seek re-election to spend more time with his family.
“For the last four years, Mark has done an exceptional job representing our neighborhoods and making sure our voices are heard at Dallas City Hall,” Sims wrote in a Facebook post. “I share Mark’s values and want to continue his commitment to our neighborhoods. For that reason, I’m excited to announce my candidacy for Dallas City Council, and I hope to earn your support.”
Sims, 48, has served on the park board since 2013 as a representative for Councilman Philip Kingston in District 14. Sims and his wife, Angela Hunt, used to live in Greenland Hills but moved to the east side of White Rock Lake near the Arboretum, which is in District 9.
Hunt also represented District 14 for four terms as a council member. She considered running for mayor before supporting outgoing City Councilman Scott Griggs.
