Speculation has circulated for months that Councilman Adam McGough may run for mayor. After he ran unopposed in the last election cycle, it may be the reason he’s drawn two opponents in the upcoming District 10 council race. Neither DeDe Alexander nor Sirrano Keith Baldeo has ever run for elected office, and both are clearly hoping the incumbent leaves the race for higher aspirations.
McGough hasn’t teased by posting his boots on billboards, as Oak Cliff Councilman Scott Griggs did before announcing his mayoral race in January, but he hasn’t planted re-election yard signs, either. He did, though, schedule an “an announcement” for Tuesday morning.
No one believes McGough will bow completely out of politics, but stranger things have happened. Pleasant Grove Councilman Rick Callahan announced in November he won’t run again after serving six years, and Mark Clayton from Lakewood said this week he won’t seek a third term.
Advocate will cover McGough’s announcement Tuesday and follow District 10 election developments, including candidate forums and debates.
