The Greater Dallas Veterans Day Parade, set to step off at 11 a.m. this morning in downtown Dallas, has been canceled due to inclement weather and safety issues. The invitation-only ceremony at Dallas City Hall will continue as planned.
What began as “Armistice Day,” celebrating “the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month” in 1918 when the guns of World War I fell silent, later changed to “Veterans Day” to honor service members from all conflicts. The national observance is held at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Washington D.C.
