What’s the deal with all that construction at Lake Highlands North Park?

If you’ve driven past Lake Highlands North Park lately, you might’ve wondered why the heck a massive fence surrounds part of the property.

Earlier this week, excavation work for the Lake Highlands Family Aquatic Center began. A groundbreaking ceremony is slated this Saturday, June 23, at 9 a.m.

The Lake Highlands aquatic center will feature a six-lane lap pool, two body slides with a plunge pool, a children’s pool and lounge areas with plenty of shade, along with a concession stand, lockers and family changing room.

Our neighborhood is one of several sites throughout the city with aquatic centers in the works. The Dallas Park and Recreation Department is funding the projects through the $31.8 million sale of Elgin B. Robertson Park, which Rowlett purchased in 2015.

Construction is slated for completion in May 2019, although other nearby centers have experienced significant delays.
