Juarez was caught shoplifting, CBS News reports, when an officer working off duty at Home Depot detained him. After additional police arrived at the store to arrest Juarez, he pulled out a handgun and started firing shots, according to the Dallas Police Department.

The officers and the civilian were transported to the hospital where they underwent surgery.

Juarez left the scene in a white Ford truck with a large ladder rack.

In January 2018, Juarez was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, according to Dallas County court records.
