Kim Caston will run for re-election to the RISD school board

Kim Caston has filed to run for her 5th term in Place 2 of the Richardson ISD school board. Caston was first elected in 2007 and currently serves as the board’s treasurer. She is the longest serving trustee on the current board, with runner-ups Justin Bono and Kristin Kuhne having been elected in 2014.

“As a trustee, I have advocated for and remain firmly committed to academic excellence and high expectations for all students;  recruiting, training and retaining outstanding teachers; conservative management of the RISD budget; and completion of 2016 bond projects on-time and within budget,” wrote Caston in a statement released Thursday. “I look forward to the implementation of the 2017 RISD strategic plan; working with our superintendent and leadership team on education innovations that will enable our students to be successful in the college or career of their choice. I believe my service on the school board and legislative advocacy experience in Austin will be invaluable assets for my next term.”

Caston has two grown sons who graduated from J.J Pearce, and during their school days she served as PTA president, RISD Council of PTAs board member, Pearce Athletic Booster Club president and Pearce Excellence in Education Foundation director. She’s also chaired the 2006 Vote Yes RISD Community Bond Campaign and been part of the RISD Budget Review Team and RISD District Planning Committee. She has presented to other school boards in Texas on 21st Century Learning, Board Visioning and Strategic Planning, and she’s a Fellow for the Center for Reform of School Systems. She is a graduate of Leadership Richardson, serves on the Richardson Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Committee and is a founding member of Pearce Community Women’s League.

Caston is a founding partner of Communications & Management Consulting, which is hired by schools and school districts.

Caston graduated from Richardson High and received a bachelor’s in business from the University of Arkansas and a master’s in marketing from Louisiana State.
