Damian Garcia was a talented cello player who planned to pursue music when he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts. The 17-year-old died Friday in what police are calling an “unexplained death” when he fell or jumped into traffic on a Central Expressway service road.
According to reports, he was naked at the time of the incident and running from mall security at NorthPark Center prior to his fall. He was with other Booker T students, who were questioned by police. Police have said little about the incident because Garcia is a minor.
Garcia performed occasionally with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and was invited to interview famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma last month.
According to an email sent out by the school, his funeral is set for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at IglesiaHispanaPenniel in Garland. His family, including his parents Jesus and Ruth and brothers Mauricio and Jairo, are accepting donations on YouCaring to cover the cost of his funeral.
