Despite a strong 2-0 start, the Lake Highlands Wildcats were defeated by the Wylie Pirates 10-7 last Friday night.

It was all defense on both sides with Lake Highlands’ offense totaling only 186 yards all night, while Wylie had 263.Jonathan Barrows had the lone score for the Wildcats fighting off two Wylie defenders to get to the end-zone. The Wildcats scored at the end of the first half to make it 7-0 going into halftime. But the Pirates’ defense came on strong in the second half, blocking any change for the Wildcats to score.

Star wide-receiver Corey Fulcher was carted off the field in the third quarter with a leg injury. With a touchdown and a late field goal the Wylie Pirates had enough to get the win. The Wildcats were driving in the final minutes, but a deflected pass that was intercepted sealed the win for the Pirates.

In other news, star defensive end Trumane Bell announced via Twitter his commitment to attend University of Texas at San Antonio after visiting the school last weekend. The Roadrunners got a good one in Bell, who is No. 91 in SportsDay’s top 100 area recruits. He is the No. 271 ranked prospect in the state.
