Luke and Paula Davis

Working to raise money for charity isn’t a competitive sport, but if it was, Lake Highlands resident Paula Davis would be the all-time winner and grand champion. The Family Place, celebrating the 25th year of their Partners Card campaign to end domestic violence, recently featured Paula in a video to highlight her 20th year of selling the cards. Over two decades, Paula has sold 3,381 Partners Cards to raise $208,718 for the effort.

“I am grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to help women and children in need,” Paula told me. “Each year, the cost of the card covers the cost of keeping a woman and her children safe for one night.”

Cards first sold for $50, but have increased over the years to $70 to meet this expense.

Since 2000, Paula has been the top seller 11 times and she’s been second 6 times.

“99% of my sales are from the wonderful Lake Highlands community,” said Paula. “It’s because of everyone’s willingness to support The Family Place that I’ve been able to sell so many cards over the past 20 years.”

Partners Card is the signature fundraiser for The Family Place, one of the longest-serving family violence service providers in the state. The campaign has raised more than $16 million and works very simply – purchasers receive a 20% discount at participating retailers for a ten-day period, which this year runs from Oct. 27 to Nov. 5. More than 750 retailers participate each year. A full list is available here.
