Overnight Sunday July 23, Carlos Ayala, who police describe as a 31-year-old Latin male, was in his car — reportedly with a passenger — in the lot of the Monticito Creek Apartments, 11333 Amanda Lane, when two armed men approached his window and commenced shooting.

Though badly wounded and bleeding profusely, Ayala managed to drive away from the complex, fleeing southward. Finally he crashed at the McCree and Pandora Circle intersection a few blocks from the site of the crime. The suspects did not follow, but fled in another direction.
