In the late 1950s the nature-loving philanthropist and scholar Ruth Andersson May restored a section of Moss Park to its native grassland state and sprinkled sunflower seeds all over the prairie. Her mentees and other proponents of native grassland upkeep say that once ongoing restoration is complete, park goers will be able to once again admire the glorious blooms.
