Ruthy's Metal Works

Ruthy’s Metal Works

Volunteers at Forest Meadow Junior High are hard at work this fall making plans for their 33rd annual Market in the Meadow fundraiser, to be held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29 and 30. The committee has recruited merchants from all over Texas to bring custom-made and one-of-a-kind gifts, clothing items, specialty foods and more, just in time for the holiday season. Vendor Chair Kathleen Elliott says one-third of MIM’s 150 vendors are new this year and 9 have LH ties. Here’s the scoop.

Four Moss Haven area residents are showing their creations, including Sarah Erickson, designer of handmade jewelry. Jennifer Barrett, owner of Ruthy’s Metal Works, makes planters, furniture and garden art. Melissa Franco will bring Dulce Queen’s “Oblea,” a traditional Columbian dessert made by spreading caramel between two crispy wafers. Susana Arce, owner of Folklore Baby & Kids, will bring artisanal creations from Latin America.

If you frequent King’s X, LH’s favorite dad-owned dive-bar, you may know Wendy Holsapple, the friendly bartender. You’ll see her in a new light when you view her artistic creations – Wire Wonders by Wendy. Also creative is LH resident Kathy Flay, who’ll be offering her Purple Daisy Pottery, colorful angels, crosses and nativity scenes. Pat’s PupRuffs are ruffled collars for dogs, and Wags & Swag are leashes, collars and other pet gifts.

Sara Jo’s Haute & Gaudy offers fun and comfy women’s clothing, many printed with sayings for the holidays. Sweet Home Bath & Body creates small batch skincare products using high quality oils, butters, and organic herbs. Blonde By Design is a women’s clothing and jewelry fashion boutique, and Southern Initials specializes in monogramming and car decals.

Plan to spend all day, because these and more new vendors, plus your favorite returning vendors, will be on hand. You can also catch entertainment by Kitty Carter Dance Factory and the Dallas Ballet Center, the Wildcat Wranglers, cheerleaders, choir and band, and school groups from LHJH, LHFC and FMJH. You can grab a snack or lunch at the Charger Café, and mom-made sweets will be for sale at the Bake Sale.

Entrance is free and the show runs from 9-5 Saturday and 11-5 Sunday.
