Hunter Punjak and Aaron Hassell have played on the same baseball team since their days at Wallace Elementary, but they’ll part ways in the fall. The pitcher/catcher duo has signed letters of intent to play college baseball at separate colleges – Hunter for East Texas Baptist University in Marshall and Aaron for Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska.

“We are so proud of these young men and their accomplishments,” praised LHHS Athletic Coordinator Lonnie Jordan. “This is a well-deserved opportunity. The Lake Highlands Athletic Department and Lake Highlands Baseball are blessed to have student/athletes of this caliber in our programs.”

Hunter will catch and play outfield for the Tigers, a Division III school in the American Southwest conference. Punjak has 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and a .357 average with the Wildcats.

Aaron plans to pitch as a Midland Warrior while attending the small liberal arts school northwest of Omaha. He has recorded 22 strikeouts so far this season for the Wildcats.

The Cats play Highland Park at HP tonight/Tuesday at 7 and Pearce at LH Friday night. You can see the full district schedule here and follow the team on Facebook here.

“Aaron and Hunter will have the opportunity to get a tremendous education while pursuing their passion of playing baseball. I look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future, and I know that the LH community will be following their progress. Good luck Aaron and Hunter. Go Wildcats!”
