“He’s from Texas, baby!”
That’s how Today Show host Jenna Bush Hager begins her introduction of Lake Highlands native and rising country music star Granger Smith. “And he’s finally getting the international recognition he deserves,” she continues.
Then co-host Hoda Kotb mentions his new album, “Remington,” and how it is “shooting to the top of iTunes charts.”
Smith performs “Backroad Song,” the lead single off the new album, in their studio — video below — before playing for the live crowd.
As recently as 2009 Smith returned to his alma mater, Lake Highlands High School, to perform a benefit concert for the school’s academic booster club and the Wrangler scholarship fund.
He’s also a Texas A&M alum.
