John Claybrook, Lake Highlands High School 2009 grad, pulled a dump truck driver from a violent crash in Austin just before the truck was caught up in flames Friday. The violent smash up, captured on dash cam video, can be viewed above.
According to John’s dad, Craig, John shows up in the last 3-4 seconds of the video, as he and another motorist, Juan, jump out of their vehicles onto the bridge and run down to where the truck disappears. That’s where, unseen by the camera, they help him out of the cab of the truck as fire erupts.
The crash occurred when the dump truck driver’s brakes failed and the heavy truck plowed through the intersection of 2222 and Jester Boulevard and smashed over everything (including cars) in its wake.
Kelli, John’s young bride, was behind him in traffic and panicked when she came upon the scene.
On the lighter side: Juan noticed John’s Aggie ring (John was president of the Class of 2013) and showed him his own (Class of 2012).
Amazingly, there were no fatalities at the scene. Four patients were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
