The Exchange Club honored four Lake Highlands High School seniors at their monthly meeting in December. Laney Norris and T. J. Churchill received Character Counts awards and Lauren Urban and Berket Ghebermichael were named Youth of the Month.
Laney is the daughter of Trey and Laura Norris. She plays soccer for the Wildcats and for FC Dallas in the Girls Classic League and is active at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church. She is a member of National Honor Society, A Capella Choir and Young Life, and she works at Starbucks. She plans to attend Texas A&M and major in elementary education.
T. J. is the son of Jim and Tammy Churchill. He played on the Wildcat football team and is a member of DECA, a marketing, management and entrepreneurship club at LHHS. He is a member of Young Life and enjoys making and watching movies. He will attend Texas Tech or the University of Arkansas to major in business or radio and TV production.
Lauren, daughter of Bryan and Kari Urban, is captain of the Highlandettes. She is a National Honor Society officer and a member of Young Life and Girls Service League. She attends North Highlands Bible Church and will study business at Baylor or Auburn.
Berket’s parents are determined to see all their children receive an education. Parents Almaz Tekele and Merhawit Ghebermichael are proud that his older brother is a medical student at UT Southwestern, another brother attends Texas Tech, and his sister recently graduated from UNT. Berket is a member of National Honor Society and the Mu Alpha Theta math honor society. He is VP of the senior class and runs on the Wildcat cross country team. He will major in pre-law.
