The Dallas Marathon runs through White Rock neighborhoods this Sunday. The course lines parts of White Rock Lake and offers many area spots to cheer on runners. (Don’t miss our list of inspiring neighborhood runners, to get you pumped up for the festivities.) The new course doesn’t really extend into Lake Highlands proper, so most road closures and traffic impediments will occur in East Dallas, Uptown and Downtown.
“Miracle on 34th Street” is onstage all weekend at Dallas Children’s Theater. The play by Valentine Davies is based on the classic 1947 holiday film. Dallas Children’s Theater is at 5938 Skillman. Go to dct.org or call 214.978.0110 for more. Tickets are $15-$28.

For a perfect Christmas card opportunity, Santa Claus will be at the flagship Half Price Books on Northwest Highway this weekend. (The same Santa we wrote about in the December magazine last year.) In keeping with Christmastime traditions, Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick will be making appearances through Dec. 20. Visit the website for dates and times. Bring the whole family or the pup for a snapshot with Santa. Also, any food donations will benefit the North Texas Food Bank.
The Shops at Park Lane also offers a holiday-themed photo opportunity. Until Dec. 30, throughout the shopping center you can find several adult, child and pooch-friendly sized “elfie selfie” stands. Plus a photo opportunity in the community park as the “I” inside the middle of a giant candy striped “B & G” display, in support of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau’s ‘BIG Things Happen Here’ campaign. To be entered to win $500, share your photo on social media using the hashtag #SelfieWithAnElfie or upload a photo by visiting the ‘Selfie With An Elfie’ tab on The Shops at Park Lane Facebook page, where you can also vote for your favorite. The photo with the most votes will receive a $500 gift card to The Shops at Park Lane.
Bonus: Early next week, Santa also will appear at the Lake Highlands YMCA.
