Richard Duge isn’t waiting for Richardson ISD’s “listening tour” to gather information from his neighbors about the 2016 school bond. The White Rock Valley Neighborhood Association president has created a 20-question survey of his own, and he hopes to gather feedback from as many Lake Highlands residents as he can reach.
You can participate in his survey here.
The survey is the result of meetings in the White Rock neighborhood called to address rapid growth at White Rock Elementary and other schools in Lake Highlands. Seven of 11 LH elementaries, including WRE, currently overflow students to other campuses, and new families continue to move in. WRE parents want RISD officials to address the issue before bond dollars are allocated, though RISD staff stress that construction of classrooms – or even an additional elementary school building – can be accomplished from capital projects funds, operating funds, or other “buckets” of district money, if needed.
The survey asks respondents to rank a variety of solutions, including moving 6th graders to junior high, redrawing boundary lines, building another school or expanding current facilities.
“This is a very important topic that will impact our children for years to come,” said Duge. “I am hoping to get as much input as possible in an effort to provide data from the community to the RISD Board in preparation for the December 1st meeting at Lake Highlands High School.”
The RISD Bond Listening Tour comes to LHHS’ Auditorium December 1 at 6:30 and all are invited.
