Dallas Police have a robbery suspect in custody tonight after he led them on a high speed chase and crashed into several cars stopped at the light at Walnut Hill and Abrams Road. Before the alleged criminal could exit the stolen vehicle, the driver of the silver minivan, apparently irate that her son in the backseat had been endangered, jerked the driver out of the car, smacked him a few times, scolded him and held him for police.

The fascinating interaction was caught on video by circling news helicopters and was the leading story on all local news channels and most social media.

Dallas Police say the mayhem began about 3 p.m. when a man stole a white Dodge Challenger near Fair Park. By the time Jessica Liesmann encountered him, she and boyfriend Charles Cook had picked up her son from Forest Meadow.

“I jumped out of the car and said, ‘What the hell’s wrong with you [speeding] in a school zone?’” she told Channel 5. Luckily, she didn’t know the driver had a gun.

Her 14-year-old, seen collapsing at the scene, has been released from Medical City after treatment.

Though police say they are glad everything turned out OK, they urge the public to let them handle the bad guys.

The suspect faces charges aggravated robbery charges.
