The former Liquid Zoo spot at Skillman-Abrams

Liquid Zoo opened at Skillman-Abrams in September 2011. It replaced the short-lived Stone Elephant and just missed being neighbor to one of the last Blockbusters. At the time, it flanked a liquor store in a shopping center anchored by a Tom Thumb. Across the street was a Big Lots store and a 7-11, among other retailers.

Today the Tom Thumb is closed. The liquor store is done. The 7-11 and the Big Lots too. We anticipated brighter days this year when Sprouts was going to move in, but, then, no.

Liquid Zoo now has vacated, ostensibly for greener pastures, which is 3851 Cedar Springs, according to a sign on the door. On Facebook, they call the updated locale “new and exciting” and promise to carry on with the Karaoke tradition for which fans know and love the outfit.

While the northeast side of Skillman-Abrams, which housed Liquid Zoo, is looking dark these days, the southeast side recently announced a new tenant, ReStore; across the street, on the northwest side is Super Target, Payless, et. al., and gems such as Mariano’s, Thai Opal and the new Taqueria Latina populate the southwest side, so not all bad news over here.
