Brent Barry at Presbyterian Hospital

When Lake Highlands mom Wanda Campbell organized a grassroots effort to pray for the staff at Presbyterian Hospital after Dallas’ Ebola crisis, Lake Highlands resident and clergyman, Brent Barry, was quick to offer his help. The pastor at NorthPark Presbyterian Church, the closest church to Texas Health Presbyterian’s campus, had been actively communicating his message of love without fear to his own flock for weeks. Campbell’s day of prayer, he says, was a chance to welcome the people of Dallas into his sanctuary to pray for doctors, nurses and administrative staff who had felt besieged by national media second-guessing their work and berating them for their mistakes.

While some opted to pray at NorthPark, others who didn’t expressed their gratitude through social media messages of support.

Barry, whose members do extensive mission work in Vickery Meadow, where Thomas Eric Duncan stayed upon arriving in Dallas, says he’s seen firsthand the community’s compassionate response to America’s first Ebola victims.

“Ebola was never the epicenter in Dallas,” says Barry in his blog. “Fear was never the epicenter in Dallas. Neighborly love is the epicenter in Dallas. And for that I am very proud.”
