It is estimated that between 40,000 and 150,000 pets die each year as the result of structure fires. Part of the problem is that human oxygen masks are too big for smaller dogs and cats, rendering them less effective.

When HMNA board members learned earlier this year that Dallas Fire Rescue did not have breathing equipment specifically designated for use on pets, group members started an initiative to stock all 57 Dallas fires stations with pet-sized masks.

With the assistance of neighbors’ donations the HMNA was able to achieve their goal within months. Invisible Fence Brand also partnered with the neighborhood group for the cause, donating 243 masks so that every Dallas fire station now has access to six pet oxygen masks for use during fire emergencies.
