The newest Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened a couple of weeks ago at Timber Creek shopping center at Skillman and Northwest Highway. Though it surely doesn’t have the character and charm of the original location at Henderson and 75, opened in 1941 by Roland Dickey, great effort has been made to make the store look “old.” Corrugated tin and distressed wood deck the walls, red & white tiles line the floor, and vintage photos recall Dickey’s history. With crepe myrtles at the front door, Johnny Cash playing in the background and crunchy fried okra ready in under two minutes, it’s a tasty stop for busy Lake Highlanders.
