gun in backpackA loaded gun was confiscated from a ninth grader at the Lake Highlands Freshman Center Thursday, and the student was arrested by Dallas Police.

When the student arrived for school, staff noticed he smelled like smoke and sent him to the front office. While there, his backpack was searched and a loaded black handgun with a brown handle was found in his bag.

The freshman, whose name has not been released due to their age, was removed from the building and taken to a youth detention center.

In a letter informing them of the incident, Principal Bill Gallo reassured parents that there was “no indication of any threat or intent to harm any student or staff member.”
