Ready to return to the fun of the ‘50s? The Lake Highlands High School Fine Arts Department is ready to whisk you back to the days of drive-ins and drag races, pep rallies and Pink Ladies, love and leather jackets as they preset “Grease” January 23-25.
This year’s school musical features Tommy Chilian and Kate Gavigan and Danny and Sandy, the teens who spent “Summer Nights” falling in love but come back to reality at Rydell High. Danny’s bad boy buddies, Chris Truong, Forrest Brown, Shane Bono and Mason Murray – are dubious about his choice of good girl Sandy. Likewise, the Pink Ladies ruling the school – Mary Jo Headrick, Kelsey Buckley, Mackenzie Fugate and Beth Erschen – find Sandy “too pure to be pink.”
Luckily, romance wins out, and our lovebirds share big hits from the Hollywood and Broadway blockbuster including “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “Sandy,” You’re the One That I Want,” and others. Watch for irritating Patty and nerdy Eugene (Katie Samuelsen and Sam Hotz), along with Vince Fontaine (Jared Thomas), the too-slick DJ, and other wonderful student performances.
The production is directed by LHHS theater teacher Chelsey Rives, with musical directors Kari Gilbertson and Aaron Lucero and choreography by Highlandette director Sarah Stoeber. The student-led technical team is headed up by Charlie Crews.
Tickets are available the night of the show and are priced from $15 for open seating in the reserved section; $10 for general admission; and $5 for students with IDs. Cash and checks will be accepted. Show times are Thurs.-Sat., Jan. 23-25 at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Performances will be held in the LHHS auditorium.
