Some 150 runners showed up on a frigid New Year’s Eve morning to run ‘round White Rock Lake.
The gathering was initiated by area resident Don Hunter who started the annual tradition in 2006. “I founded the Dallas Loop-the-Lake Foundation to help fight against childhood obesity in our communities. Every year on New Year’s Eve morning I gather as many local runners as possible at White Rock Lake, for one final run of the year. Everyone makes a donation to the foundation and we then give the proceeds to Marathon Kids.”
Marathon Kids is a regional organization focused on healthy living and exercise. Whole Foods has promised to match donations up to $25,000.
This year, to encourage participation, The Lot restaurant opened its doors, serving up breakfast, coffee and mimosas. Whole Foods and Luke’s Locker donated gift certificates for a raffle.
