D.J. reportedly is still recovering in the hospital and faces another surgery. A fund to help with hospital bills had been set up through the giveforward.com website—here’s D.J.’s page.

Brian Cloninger, 46, has been arrested for the crime, which took place in the parking lot of the La Bella Palm apartment complex.

Last Friday at about 6:30 p.m. officers with the Northeast Division including Krystal Woods, Kedrick Jones and deputy chief Andrew Acord gathered with a 15-20 parents, children and staffers at the La Bella clubhouse.

Officer Woods demonstrated gun safety and worked with the children on identifying emergency situations and knowing when to call 9-1-1.

All of the officers chatted with residents and children after the meeting, and brought pizza for the participants.
