I had a visiting journalist with me, in town from St. Louis to help me cover this year’s Fourth of July parade. Actually, my daughter, Lindsay, was here to visit family and eat Texas barbeque, but she jumped at a chance to revisit the parade she had walked in herself as a Forest Meadow cheerleader and Lake Highlands Highlandette. According to LH’s Ray Hill, the Exchange Club parade started before Lindsay’s first birthday in 1987, and it’s been going strong ever since.

Lindsay is now an editor and social media miner for Patch.com, an online community newspaper owned by AOL. She’s a pro, as evidenced by her photos. (The pics she snapped from her iPhone are better than the ones I took from my camera.) Of course, in the end, it all comes down to the subjects, and Lake Highlands’ families dressed in red-white-and-blue make for mighty good subject matter. Thanks to all who offered me a smile (and a piece of candy from their booty thrown by riders on floats).

You can see our photos here.

Don’t you just love Lake Highlands?!?
