10150 Faircrest fireNeighbors say they heard a boom before the fire began at 10150 Faircrest in Lake Highlands. Multiple fire engines and ambulances arrived shortly thereafter, just before 11 a.m. this morning.

An older woman was transported to the hospital, believed to be long-time resident Nancy Jones. For many years, Jones owned and ran Journeyer Book Store at the corner of Plano Road and Walnut Hill. Jones was famous for stocking books designated as required reading by LH teachers, for offering free candy for neighborhood kids willing to come in and read, and for permitting her pet cats (and occasional strays) to make themselves at home in her shop.

Journeyer closed in February of 2008.

This morning’s fire appeared to have begun in the back of the house, but police said they will investigate along with fire examiners. A man and a toddler were in the house when the fire started.

Neighbors said it was difficult to determine exactly who lived in the home.

“Lots of different people were seen coming and going,” said one neighbor who declined to be identified.
