In Lake Highlands, we get the best of both worlds- a small-town feel with natural beauty- all while being fairly close to the action downtown. But who says that we have to leave our neighborhood and spend big bucks to see quality live music?

All three performances below are held at restaurants in our ‘hood. Oh yeah, and they’re all free.

Watch K.M. Williams perform live at the Alligator Cafe (located in the Casa Linda Plaza shopping center) Thursday from 7-10 p.m. Williams’ soulful pickin’ combined with a bowl of the restaurant’s highly acclaimed gumbo will make you feel like you’re right on the bayou.

Use Red, Hot & Blues’ “Hoochie Coochie” sauce in moderation… it bites.

Sip from a giant pitcher of sweet tea (literally) as the Deep Ellum Rhythm Kings and Joel Foy perform Friday night from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Red, Hot & Blue, located at Walnut Hill and 75. The BBQ is Red, Hot, & Blue’s forté, but vegetarian’s can splurge too- the baked sweet potato on the veggie platter definitely qualifies as “Texas-sized.”

Craving a cold beer instead? The Lake House Bar and Grill on Northwest Highway has you covered. Texas brewery Revolver Brewery is hosting a “Tap Take Over” on Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m, just before the Mojo Dolls perform live at 9:30 p.m. Pints of Revolver’s Blood & Honey, High Brass, Revolver Bock and Mother’s Little Fracker beers will all be available on tap.
