Nighttime food cravings, when you live in Lake Highlands, can be a challenge to address.

Here’s what I came up with at 10 p.m. on a Sunday, along with the runners up:

Messy, good Shuck N’ Jive oysters on the half shell

Shuck N’ Jive. They have a decent menu selection for fans of seafood and fried fare. It’s not exactly in Lake Highlands, but at Greenville and Lovers, it is one of your closest late-night options. (Plus, I worked at the Addison location for a year when I was in college, so I am fond of the place.) The oysters on the half shell are plump, the po boys — choose chicken, shrimp, catfish, oyster or crawfish with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onion with Shuck Sauce and a side of fries — are a no brainer, and my personal vice, fried pickles, are crispy, tangy and addictive. The full menu — which features wings, salads, pasta dishes, grilled fish and jumbo shrimp, to name a few — is available until 2 a.m. daily.

We almost went to Beranea’s Mexican Grill on Forest at Greenville. It is listed as a 11 a.m.-9 p.m. joint, but the neon “open” sign was bright and the dining room was peppered with people well past 10 p.m. Sunday. Bereanea’s has been open only a few months in the old Bee Gees spot, but it’s also been getting some good buzz already.

Liquid Zoo, a dive-y but spacious bar and grill, is close to home, Abrams and Skillman, and serves food and a full bar until 2 a.m. daily.

Anytime, day or night, Cafe Brazil at 6420 Central or Buzzbrews at 4154 Central will feed you.

The Ethiopian restaurant Ibex also is open until 2 a.m. Fridays-Sundays.  I haven’t been there, but click the earlier link for Yelper reviews.
