Beranea’s Mexican Grill opened about 7 months ago, in the location formerly known as Bee Gee’s Restaurant at Forest and Greenville. I don’t know why I assumed it would be the kind of place where you order food at the counter (like Fuzzy’s Taco) but when I finally visited the restaurant with my teenage son, we learned it is a sit-down format with table service.
The second pleasant surprise was the menu, and the prices. Lunch platters complete with rice and beans range from $6.99 to $9.99. You can spend a little more on one of the special entrees, or a little less if you’re not hungry enough for rice and beans.
Chips and salsa? Check. Margaritas? No liquor, but they do have aguas frescas and Jarritos (Mexican sodas). Desserts? Flan is on the menu, sopapillas, and tres leches cake. (And just for kicks, New York cheese cake.)
The teenager enjoyed his burrito platter (he left not one grain of rice.) I meant to leave a few grains of rice on my plate, but couldn’t help eating it all.
More good news: Beranea’s is open for breakfast. Hours are 7:00 am – 9:00 pm most days, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday.
