The man who was arrested for Monday’s car chase in the Lake Highlands area has been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Suspect Tyrone Christopher Allen shot a woman and fled the scene, leading police on a car chase through North Dallas and Lake Highlands. When Allen hit a curb and knocked off his bumper he started to run from the police.

SWAT teams arrested the suspect after Allen barricaded himself in a house in Hamilton Park for several hours.

Several nearby homes were evacuated and Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet Elementary School in Dallas was on lockdown as a precautionary measure. No students or staff were harmed.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Allen was set to appear in court next week for previous charges of domestic abuse to Jackson. Allen is also a registered sex offender with a record of indecent exposure to children. He remains in custody and his bond isn’t set yet.
