The Lake Highlands High School Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams head to Waco’s Twin Rivers golf course today and tomorrow, competing in the Regional tournament. Both teams earned 2nd place honors in District 9-5A.
The men’s A Team defeated a strong Jesuit B Team to take second, and Jesuit’s A Team was first. LHHS’ B Team placed 5th.
Senior Kyle Kennedy, who will sign a letter of intent next week to play at Abilene Christian University, received an individual first place trophy as “low man” of the District Tournament.
“While the group as a whole has seen some disappointing rounds on the course, our seniors, Kyle Kennedy and Parker Morgan, have continually stepped up to lead our younger boys both on and off the course,” said Millye Hale, whose son Blaine joined the team as a freshman in 2012. “Our seniors shaved several strokes off their rounds on day two of the district tournament to lead the team to a victory. Their leadership over this team has amazed any of those who have been fortunate enough to have a front row seat.”
Millye also had high praise for Coach Chris Cole.
“I could not have dreamed of a better coach for my son than Coach Cole,” said Millye “He pours into these boys on a much grander scale than just being a coach, calling them to a new standard expecting all to rise up.”
Meanwhile, Coach Jim Kratz’ Lady Cats are no strangers to Waco, either. This is their fourth year in a row to place in the top 3 in district.
“We were tied with Richardson going into day two of the tournament,” Kratz told me, “and we blew them out by 20 strokes to easily win 2nd place.”
Competing in Waco for the Wildcats will be Robyn Hall, Gabbi Pucci, Emma Riley, Hayley Boles and Alyssa Wilson. Senior Dallas Crotty will travel as an alternate.
Go Cats!
