Many an American Flag this Veteran’s Day waved in front of Lake Highlands homes.
Six special days a year, the Griffith family is one of many in the neighborhood to wake up to a front yard flag, thanks to a unique service offered by the Boy Scouts and Venturing Crew.
Since Lauri and Casey Griffith joined the Lake Highlands American Flag Project, participating scout and crew members (sponsored by Elks Lodge 71 and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church) at dusk each President’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, September 11 and Veteran’s Day post a three-by-five-foot American Flag in their grass, then return to remove the flag before sunset.
This year, Lauri tells us, her daughter Olivia Griffith, 3, was prepared to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, which she recently learned in school.
