At about 1:47 a.m. Thursday police got a report of an Armed Encounter Disturbance (Person With Gun) right outside their Northeast Division substation at Northwest Highway and Audelia.
Officers had barely exited the building when they spotted the suspect running up Northwest Highway, gun in hand, attempting to flag down cars.
The gunman fled past the station, through the nextdoor armory parking lot, across Northwest Highway and into the Exxon at Ferndale and Northwest Highway.
One Detective Sanchez detained the man until backup arrived, and they took the suspect into custody.
Officers tracked down the guy’s car in the middle of Buckner Blvd., just south of Northwest Highway. A tire was blown and shell casings were scattered about the floorboards.
The above story is brought to us by the Northeast Facebook page, which apparently sees a bit of action.
One more tidbit not mentioned: somewhere between the initial encounter and the Exxon, the perp ditched the gun, and it was not located, according to the police report.
