Not branding in the hot-iron-on-cattle sense, but branding in the who-we-are and what-we-want-everyone-to-know-about-us sense.

That was the driving force behind the recent LH StrEATS fundraiser, attended by roughly 2,500 people — a number 1,000 higher than organizers had hoped for. Of those, 1,700 were adults and paid $5 a piece for an armband. The money raised paid off “phase 1” of the campaign to brand Lake Highlands, and kicked off “phase 2.”

So what is branding, and why does Lake Highlands need a brand?

In today’s podcast, we talk about these questions with Lake Highlands Branding Committee co-chair Ginger Grinsfelder Greenberg and committee member Jana Boswell, who is also incoming president of the Lake Highlands Women’s League. You may remember that more than a year ago, Boswell thought up the idea to use the vacant Town Center land for food truck events. Her idea became a reality with LH StrEATS, and she says the outcome was even better than she dreamed.

Greenberg and Boswell’s greater dream, however, is to unite Lake Highlands and make it a destination, not just a “bedroom community.” To learn more about how the branding committee hopes to make this happen, listen to this week’s podcast by subscribing on iTunes, or listen to the podcast below.
