If you’re looking for some sort of outdoor exercise that doesn’t involve running or pedaling, how about paddling?
Practically everyday I drive up Mockingbird Lane, past the dog park and I see Amy Ebert and Andeline Koh’s kayaks on the water and I always think, “That looks fun.” It is, in fact, fun. I tried it out last year. The kayak and canoe rental company recently reopened for the summer at the northeast corner of the lake, just east of the White Rock Lake dog park.
White Rock Paddle is open every day of the week, except Mondays, which the ladies told us they reserve for relaxing. They’ll also close on the days when it pours (which could be the next few days, unfortunately); those days keep them busy rescheduling reservations. They plan to stay open through October, at least.
Rentals of single and tandem kayaks run from $15 an hour or $55 a day to $65 a day. They also now have monthly memberships featuring discount rentals and frequent paddler punch cards, as well as lessons.
